The specialized companies (Mechanized, Airborne, Support, and Ranger if you buy it) are a lot of fun to play with, especially with the persistent upgrade system that lets you customize each company over the course of the campaign.

I don't recall the specific part you're stuck on, maybe that's in the intro mission where you play all three companies? (I skip that one since I've played the campaign several times.) I really like the overworld map with territory sectors that play out as individual skirmish scenarios and the random events that help make the experience unique. On the other hand, I love the Ardennes Assault campaign. It just felt wrong, like the campaign was forcing me to play poorly. Which wasn't all that fun for me as a player when I'm trying to preserve and upgrade infantry squads and the like. The missions get better later on, but the game really pushes this 'red horde' notion that the Russians just threw warm bodies into MG fire on the regular. The CoH2 Soviet campaign wasn't great, for sure. Okay, so it sounds like you're mostly focused on campaigns. I just need to try COH 2 again but every time I Soni end up quitting and playing COH1 like playing from morning to evening to finish because I’m a slow player I love capturing a sector, digging in, building a bunch of MG Nests and then slowly advancing forward, scouting the next sector, sending in a tank, leveling with artillery and then capturing it. One of my favorite missions in COH was hill 192 I remember it took me the entire day. the various menu items (I realize I’m being annoyingly nit picky here) I don’t know the overall feel couldn’t generate the same magic. My squads kept getting wiped out in that very first mission after you relieve your soldiers at the village and then have to trudge across the snow. In Ardennes assault too I was hoping since it’s the Americans it would feel like COH 1 and boy I was mistaken. I’m at that level where you had to sabotage your own base and have your engineers burn your own buildings before escaping and I had had enough. When I realized you could just send endless companies, there’s no pop cap, and if people in your squad died you couldn’t re I force, it just took the fun away. I loved the different units, esp mortars, machine gunners, infantry and anti tank paratroopers and loved using them together to conquer a whole map in single player.ĬOH 2 the SP campaign started poorly. I liked the base building aspect, collecting resources and managing your squads like if they get whittled down retreat and reinforce, live to fight another day. The battles felt great to me, I replayed it on harder difficulties too.

So I love love love COH 1 single player (all the expansions too). If you like Warhammer 40K in any way, get this game and get UMW40K. It's a work in progress, but it's an absolute fucking gem. There's total conversions of it to WWI, a shit ton of unit additions, various maps ranging from historical ones to made up stuff, but my favorite is the insanely large UMW40K, which is a total conversion of MOWAS 2 to a Warhammer 40K game. You should get the game just for the mods. Jesus Christ, the mods are the main draw for me. However, it definitely has some advantages over COH 2, including armor that works consistently- no 6-pounders randomly penning a King Tiger from the front, for example- maps that feel a lot bigger, direct unit control (which is absurdly awesome like Jesus Christ I want it in COH 2 so fucking bad because of my experience with it destroying entire enemy infantry formations using a single tank by playing smart and pumping out HE feels fucking AMAZING). You need to pay more attention to it in general. It's very micro intensive, to the point you have to restore unit ammo using trucks. I haven't played COH 1 unfortunately I'm sharing my insights despite this because I have played MOWAS 2.ĭepends.
